Work on Writing
This week we learned about another Daily 5 choice - Work on Writing! We discussed different things we could do during Work on Writing and how it is different than Writer's Workshop. During Work on Writing, the sky is the limit! We came up with all kinds of ideas of what we could work on. I am so excited to hang signs in the room and hallway, and deliver letters that some students worked on!
Read to a Friend
We are so excited to announce that we learned another Daily 5 choice - Read to a Friend! We discussed important expectations and why we should spend time reading to our friends. Not only do we enjoy it, but we get to COACH our friends, too! It is important for us to remember that COACHES (much like teachers) do not just TELL the words - we give them problem solving strategies to figure out unknown words!
Read to Self
Your first graders have been hard at work! We launched Daily 5, and we have been working to build our STAMINA! The first day of school we started at 3 minutes, and we have SKY ROCKETED all the way to 25 minutes on Friday! Way to go, first graders! We were very thoughtful when we came up with our class expectations. Take a look! We even have a special celebration planned when we reach 30 minutes...ask your first grader about it!
